Communities in Gros Morne
Approximately 30 minutes from Wiltondale is the community
of Woody Point. On the drive to Woody Point, you will have a
very scenic view of Bonne Bay. Woody Point has a very deep
water port, which made it a very important shipping port in
the early history of Newfoundland. The town is going through
a restoration phase of the older properties. This makes the
town a must a visit while in Gros Morne National Park. You can
find out more about the history of the area by visiting the
Heritage Theatre website.
Woody Point is situated such that from the town, you can see
the clear waters of Bonne Bay as well as Gros Morne Mountain
and the Tablelands Mountain. This combined with a natural
beauty makes the town an historic place to visit in
Newfoundland. It has aided in the designation of Gros Morne a
World Historic site. Enjoy yourself as you walk around town.
While in Woody Point visit the Discovery Centre, which has
become an integral part of Gros Morne National Park. Also
make sure you visit The Heritage Theatre to get a taste of
Newfoundland Culture in music and song. Visit the Hunky Dory
Folk Arts Shop to get a see some of Newfoundland's finest in
Folk Art Collections
Although a very scenic place to visit in the summer time, like
other places in the park, Woody Point has much to offer
visitors in the winter time. Enjoy ice skating, snowshoeing,
skiing or snowmobiling during the winter months, along with the hiking, whale watching, cultural events and boating during the
summer time.
